Important Police Phone Numbers

Call 770-499-3911 for matters such as:

  • A theft discovered after the offender has left
  • Property damage with no continuing danger
  • Parking complaints
  • Suspicious activity that is not currently threatening anyone
  • A delayed burglary report
  • Noise or neighbourhood disturbances
  • An abandoned vehicle
  • A request for a non-emergency officer response

Police calls are prioritized according to the seriousness of the incident. Delayed property crimes may therefore receive a slower response than violent offences, serious crashes or events involving an active suspect.

The headquarters number, 770-499-3900, should be used for general questions, report services and administrative matters rather than dispatching an officer.

Cobb County Police Precincts

CCPD currently lists six geographic precincts. The precincts are grouped into three larger operational districts, with two precincts assigned to each district.

District 1 includes Precincts 1 and 6, District 2 includes Precincts 2 and 5, and District 3 includes Precincts 3 and 4. Precinct officers primarily answer emergency calls and provide police services in their assigned geographic areas. Each precinct also has investigators responsible for property crimes within that jurisdiction.

Precinct 6 provides walk-in assistance, accepts certain non-emergency reports by telephone and answers general police questions. Residents do not need to determine their precinct before requesting help; dispatchers can identify it from the complete incident address.

Department Divisions and Specialized Units

CCPD’s operations include uniform patrol, investigations, special response, administration and community-support services.

1. Field Operations

Uniform patrol officers provide the department’s primary response to calls for service. Their responsibilities include:

  • Assisting victims
  • Securing crime scenes
  • Searching for suspects
  • Interviewing witnesses
  • Collecting preliminary evidence
  • Enforcing criminal and traffic laws
  • Preparing the initial police report
  • Conducting preventive patrol

Each precinct also works on recurring crime and quality-of-life concerns within its assigned communities.

2. Criminal Investigations

Precinct Criminal Investigation Units primarily investigate property offences such as burglary, theft, vehicle theft, shoplifting, entering automobiles and criminal damage.

Major or specialized investigations may be handled by countywide units responsible for:

  • Homicide and robbery
  • Crimes against children
  • Domestic violence and stalking
  • Gang activity
  • Organized crime
  • Technology-based crime
  • Hit-and-run collisions
  • Crimes against persons

Not every report is automatically assigned to a detective. Assignment may depend on the seriousness of the offence, available evidence, an identifiable suspect and the presence of workable investigative leads.

3. Special Operations

Specialized department resources include:

  • SWAT and Tactical Unit
  • Crisis Negotiation Team
  • Bomb Squad
  • K-9 Unit
  • DUI Task Force
  • Motorcycle officers
  • Selective Traffic Enforcement Program
  • Underwater Search and Recovery Team
  • Rangers
  • Real-Time Crime Center
  • Drone response program

The Ranger Unit enforces state laws and county ordinances in county parks, along the Silver Comet Trail and on certain federal recreation properties. The department’s Drone as a First Responder program, launched in 2026, provides officers with real-time aerial information during active calls.

What Area Does Cobb County Police Serve?

CCPD primarily provides routine police service in unincorporated Cobb County. Several incorporated cities maintain their own departments, including Marietta, Smyrna, Kennesaw, Acworth, Austell and Powder Springs.

An address may have “Marietta,” “Smyrna” or another city in its postal address without being inside that municipality’s legal boundaries. The incident’s actual location determines whether the responding agency is CCPD or a city police department.

The City of Mableton is an important current exception. Under an agreement effective June 15, 2026, Cobb County Police continues providing law-enforcement services within Mableton for one year while the city prepares its own public-safety operations.

CCPD is also different from the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office. The Police Department handles patrol and criminal investigations, while the Sheriff’s Office operates the county jail, manages courthouse security, serves certain legal documents and performs other sheriff-related duties.

Filing a Cobb County Police Report

A report may be initiated by:

  • Dialling 911 for an emergency
  • Calling 770-499-3911 for a non-emergency response
  • Contacting the appropriate precinct
  • Visiting Police Precinct 6 for walk-in assistance

The department provides online tools for searching existing cases, obtaining available crash reports and submitting crime tips. However, a crime tip is not the same as an official police report.

Contact dispatch directly when:

  • A suspect is known
  • Security footage identifies a person or vehicle
  • Physical evidence may require collection
  • A vehicle has been stolen
  • A firearm is involved
  • A home or business was entered
  • An officer needs to document the scene

After reporting an incident, keep the case number. It may be needed for insurance, report requests, evidence submissions and communication with investigators.

Obtaining Police and Crash Reports

Central Records is located at Police Headquarters:

  • Cobb County Police Central Records
  • 545 S. Fairground Street
  • Marietta, GA 30060
  • Telephone: 770-499-3900

A requester generally needs a valid government-issued photo ID and payment for any applicable charges. Cash, money orders and business checks are accepted. Mastercard and Visa payments are accepted only at Central Records; personal checks are not accepted.

Most involved parties can obtain standard incident reports from Central Records or a police precinct. Requests involving juveniles, domestic violence, sexual offences or stalking must be handled through Central Records.

Basic incident information and available crash reports can also be searched online. Larger files, recordings or other materials may require a formal Georgia Open Records Act request.

Property, Evidence and Impounded Vehicles

The Property and Evidence Unit is located at:

  • 2435 East-West Connector
  • Austell, GA 30106
  • Telephone: 770-499-4128

Property is released by appointment. Available appointment periods are generally Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. A valid photo ID is required.

Found property and items held for safekeeping are generally retained for 90 days. Evidence connected with a criminal case requires written authorization from the investigating officer, prosecutor or appropriate legal authority before it can be returned.

A vehicle under a police hold cannot be released without permission from the authorizing officer. A third party collecting a vehicle must present identification, proof of ownership and a notarized letter from the registered owner identifying both the representative and the vehicle.

Complaints About Cobb County Police Employees

  • Department of Public Safety Internal Affairs Unit

  • Marietta, GA 30061
  • Telephone: 770-528-3812

A complaint may also be made at Police Headquarters or a precinct. The official complaint form is optional; the department states that a particular form is not required for feedback.

Helpful information includes the incident date, time, location, employee description, badge number if known, police vehicle number, report or citation number, witness information and available recordings.

Cobb County Adult Detention Center

CCPD does not operate the county jail. People arrested by Cobb County Police may be booked into:

  • Cobb County Adult Detention Center
  • 1825 County Services Parkway
  • Marietta, GA 30008
  • Main switchboard: 770-499-4200

The Sheriff’s Office manages detainee processing, medical care, records, visitation, transportation and custody. The detention complex is primarily a pretrial facility.
