Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department: Address, Phone Number, Area Commands and County

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, commonly called LVMPD or Metro, is the main law-enforcement agency serving the City of Las Vegas and large unincorporated areas of Clark County, Nevada. Its jurisdiction includes many places commonly associated with Las Vegas, including much of the Las Vegas Strip.

LVMPD was created in 1973 by combining the former Las Vegas Police Department with the Clark County Sheriff’s Department. Unlike an ordinary city police department, it provides both municipal police services and several county-level law-enforcement functions. The department is headed by the elected Clark County Sheriff.

Residents and visitors should call 911 during an emergency. For a matter requiring police assistance without an immediate threat, they can call 311 locally or use the full non-emergency dispatch number.

Services Available at Area Commands

LVMPD area commands provide several non-emergency public services. Depending on the person’s involvement and the type of record, services may include:

  • Filing a crime report
  • Filing a traffic-collision report
  • Obtaining certain police-report copies
  • Obtaining a personal LVMPD background check
  • Submitting neighbourhood service requests
  • Requesting extra patrol attention
  • Crime-prevention assistance
  • Disposing of unused pills and capsules

Area commands generally accept credit or debit card payments for records. Cash is not accepted at area-command locations.

More specialised services, including fingerprinting, concealed-carry applications, work-card fingerprints and convicted-person registration, are handled through the Records and Fingerprint Bureau at headquarters.

What County Is LVMPD In?

LVMPD is based in Clark County, Nevada.

Its jurisdiction includes the incorporated City of Las Vegas and unincorporated areas of Clark County. These unincorporated areas include many major tourist and residential communities.

Much of the Las Vegas Strip is outside the official City of Las Vegas, but it remains within LVMPD jurisdiction because it is located in unincorporated Clark County.

LVMPD does not normally provide municipal police services inside:

  • Henderson
  • North Las Vegas
  • Boulder City
  • Mesquite

These cities operate their own police departments. Incidents on public school property may be handled by Clark County School District Police, while freeway incidents may fall under Nevada State Police jurisdiction.

How to File an LVMPD Police Report

Police reports may be filed online, by telephone or in person, depending on the circumstances.

Some crimes without known suspect information can be reported through LVMPD’s online system. The reporting person can submit the details and print a copy for personal records.

When a suspect’s name, address, vehicle or other identifying information is known, the report should generally be filed in person at an area command or the headquarters Records and Fingerprint Bureau.

Some qualifying incidents without suspect information may also be reported by calling 702-828-3111.

In-person reports are accepted on a walk-in basis. An appointment is not required and should not be booked under another service category merely to reduce the waiting time.

A person filing a report should provide:

  • The exact incident location
  • Date and approximate time
  • Names and descriptions of involved people
  • Witness contact information
  • Vehicle descriptions and licence plate numbers
  • Receipts and serial numbers
  • Photographs or video
  • Details of lost, stolen or damaged property

Obtaining Police and Collision Reports

LVMPD provides copies of eligible incident, traffic-collision and arrest reports through online requests, in-person service or mail.

Allow up to 10 business days after filing before requesting a copy.

Beginning July 1, 2026, the listed fee is:

Report typeFee
Incident report$13
Traffic-collision report$13

Requesters generally need valid photo identification. A person collecting a report for a friend or family member may need a signed and notarised authorisation form and a copy of that person’s identification.

Reports may be redacted or withheld when they contain protected victim details, juvenile information, confidential material or information connected to an active investigation.

People who are not involved in a case may need to use LVMPD’s public-records request system rather than the ordinary report-copy process.

Towed and Recovered Vehicles

LVMPD uses an authorised online tow-management service to list vehicles towed or recovered within its jurisdiction.

Owners can search using the vehicle’s:

  • Licence plate number
  • Vehicle identification number
  • Year
  • Make
  • Model

When there is no posted towing-company information and the vehicle cannot be located through the tow search, call 702-828-3111.

A vehicle reported stolen may have been recovered and placed at a contracted tow yard. Owners should check promptly because storage charges may continue to accumulate.

Evidence and Property Retrieval

The LVMPD Evidence Vault receives, stores and releases property and evidence held by the department.

The Evidence Vault can be contacted at 702-828-3473. It operates by appointment only, and walk-in property collection is not accepted.

Property held as evidence cannot normally be released until the investigator, prosecutor or court authorises it. The owner may also need valid identification and proof of ownership.

Clark County Detention Center

Unlike many city police departments, LVMPD operates the Clark County Detention Center through its detention-services structure.

The facility is located at:

  • 330 South Casino Center Boulevard
  • Las Vegas, Nevada 89101

The main detention-center number is 702-671-3900.

People should use the LVMPD inmate-search service or contact the detention center for information about custody status, inmate identification numbers, visitation, funds and facility procedures.

Not everyone arrested in the Las Vegas Valley is held at CCDC. Depending on the arrest location, a person may instead be taken to the Las Vegas City Jail, Henderson Detention Center or North Las Vegas Detention Center.

Complaints About LVMPD Employees

Complaints involving LVMPD officers or employees can be submitted to the Internal Affairs Bureau.

The bureau can be contacted at 702-828-3422, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Complaints may also be submitted through the department’s online form.

Anonymous complaints are accepted, although providing contact information may help investigators obtain additional details.

The complaint should include the incident date, time, location, officer’s name or badge number when known, witness details and any photographs or recordings.

Complaints may also be submitted in writing to the independent LVMPD Citizen Review Board.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does LVMPD police the Las Vegas Strip?

A: Yes. Most of the Las Vegas Strip is in unincorporated Clark County rather than the City of Las Vegas, but it is within LVMPD jurisdiction.

Q: Is 311 the same as the LVMPD non-emergency number?

A: Local callers can dial 311 for non-emergency police response. The full dispatch number is 702-828-3111 and may be more useful for callers outside the local dialing area.

Q: Can I report a crime after returning home from a Las Vegas trip?

A: Possibly. Visitors who have already left Las Vegas may be able to submit an eligible report online. Cases involving known suspects or evidence may require direct contact with LVMPD.

Q: Can I file a report at any LVMPD area command?

A: Yes. Reports can generally be filed at an area command during its public-service hours or at the Records and Fingerprint Bureau at headquarters.

Q: Can I report a known suspect online?

A: The online system is primarily intended for qualifying incidents without suspect information. When the suspect is known, file the report in person.

Q: Does LVMPD operate the Clark County Detention Center?

A: Yes. LVMPD operates CCDC. However, the Las Vegas City Jail and detention centers in Henderson and North Las Vegas are separate facilities.

A: Check the authorised LVMPD tow-management search first. When no towing record is available and theft is suspected, call non-emergency dispatch immediately.

Q: Can another person collect my report?
